What
kind of kayak will I be paddling?
We use a mixture of single and double high quality fiberglass
kayaks. We do not guarantee the exclusive use of either of these types.
Group dynamics and conditions determine this. Our kayaks are very
stable and comfortable, chosen with the beginner paddler in mind.
Do your trips require any previous kayaking experience?
No. Most people coming on our trips are first time kayakers.
Sea kayaking is easy to learn and our guides will teach you how to
paddle with confidence.
What is the difficulty level?
Although there is some upper body exertion that is involved,
sea kayaking does not require you to be athletic to enjoy yourself.
Pre-trip conditioning may make some peoples experience more enjoyable.
How much will we paddle each day?
This largely depends on weather and sea conditions, overall
group ability, and daily itinerary requirements but generally we
will paddle no more than 4-5 hours a day.
Bathrooms and washing?
Some of the areas we will be camping in have pit toilets,
but not all. Your guide will give you instruction about what procedure
is appropriate in the respective area. A washing station will be
set up at all campsites. Alcohol based hand sanitizer is recommended.
Washing is very important and should be done often. Your guide will
provide you with more details on staying clean and healthy in the
outdoors on day 1 of your trip.
Alcohol?
We do provide a glass of wine with each dinner while on
trip because we feel it compliments and enriches the dining experience.
Generally speaking, we ask our guests not to bring spirits with them.
However, if you have a special bottle of wine that you would like
share with the group that is fine. Once alcohol has been consumed,
kayaking has ceased for the remainder of the day.
Wild animals?
We have encountered bears and wolves in close proximity
on numerous occasions without incidence. Your guide will explain
the protocol when near wild animals and provide you with information
about appropriate food handling/storing procedure when camping in
wilderness areas.
Fishing & Shellfish?
We encourage guests to bring a rod as fishing on Vancouver
Island is some of the best on the planet. A fishing license is required
and can be purchased on route. Your guide can help with selecting
lures and tackle. If you catch Salmon or one of the many species
of Rockfish on trip, your guide would happily assist you in preparing
it. Shellfish is never harvested on trip for health and safety concerns. |
